UK Vape Tax 2026: New Vaping Duty Explained – Why we're holding our Pre-Tax Price Lock!

From 1 October 2026 the UK Vaping Products Duty adds about £2.20 per 10ml of liquid (roughly £2.64 with VAT). Here’s what changed, what isn’t taxed, and how Eco Vape’s Price Lock keeps pre-October prices on our own-made liquids while that stock lasts. Vape duty is here but not for you, We're holding our pre tax prices!

What is the UK Vaping Products Duty?

Vaping Products Duty (VPD) is a new UK excise duty on vaping liquid. It started on 1 October 2026. Business registrations opened on 1 April 2026.

  • Rate: a flat £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid, whatever the nicotine strength, including 0mg where the liquid falls under the rules.
  • What it covers: liquid meant to be vapourised that contains nicotine plus glycerine or glycol, and vape-ready liquid such as bottled e-liquid, shortfills, nic shots and liquid in pods.
  • Who pays: UK manufacturers and importers pay the duty. Retailers pass it on in the price.
  • Duty stamps: every retail pack must carry an official Vaping Duty Stamp from 1 October 2026.
  • Exemptions: medical products, and tobacco products that are already under tobacco duty.

HMRC’s stated aim is to make vaping less affordable, especially for young people and non-smokers, while keeping a financial reason for smokers to switch. The flat rate is there so businesses and HMRC are not arguing over nicotine strength.

How much does it add to e-liquid?

The duty is £2.20 per 10ml. VAT at 20% on that duty is what takes the checkout increase to about £2.64 per 10ml.

  • 10ml bottle: about £2.64
  • 50ml shortfill: about £13.20
  • 100ml shortfill: about £26.40

That is on top of the bottle price. Duty-stamped stock made from October carries it. Own-brand liquids bought under Price Lock stay at pre-October prices while that pre-duty stock lasts. See Price Lock for what’s included.

What isn’t taxed (devices & kits)

Hardware is not under the liquid duty. A refillable kit, pod device or battery is not charged £2.20 per 10ml. The duty lands on the liquid: bottled e-liquid, shortfills, nic shots and liquid already in a pod.

That is why a refillable kit plus our locked liquids is the practical route if you want to keep pre-duty bottle prices. Pre-filled pods from other suppliers are not in Price Lock.

Eco Vape Price Lock — pre-October prices while stocks last

Vape duty is here but not for you, We're holding our pre tax prices! Price Lock is pre-October prices on our own brands while that stock lasts: EV, EVR, BEAR, Skweez, Dainty’s, Psycho Bunny and Dripping.

If your favourite flavour is out of stock, it is not gone. We are restocking pre-tax liquid through to 31 March 2027. A flavour can sell out and come back at the locked price while that window is open. Once that pre-duty stock is gone, new bottles are duty-stamped and the duty is in the price. Locked prices last until that stock runs out.

We still have to register with HMRC, buy and apply duty stamps, update labels and file the new returns. Energy, shipping, staffing and packaging costs sit on top of the duty. We are holding the pre-October price on own-brand liquid for as long as that stock allows.

Why refillable makes sense under the duty

A disposable or pre-filled pod already has the liquid inside, so the duty is in that unit and we cannot Price Lock supplier stock. A refillable kit is hardware. You fill it with our locked 10ml salts, freebase or shortfills, and the bottle price stays at the pre-October rate while that stock lasts.

Bulk deals still worth grabbing (5 for £12 & shortfills)

5 for £12 and shortfill deals stay while qualifying stock lasts. Duty-stamped stock will cost more once pre-October liquid is gone.

Mix and match five 10ml bottles for £12, and shortfill multi-buys such as 3 for £10, are still the cheapest way to put a few weeks of liquid aside at the locked rate.

Sold out on the 5 for £12 or a shortfill you wanted? Check back, or sign up and we will notify you when that flavour is restocked. Pre-tax restocks run until 31 March 2027.
