What are vape mods and why do people use them?
Vape mods, also known as “modifications,” are advanced vaping devices that are designed to give users more control over their vaping experience. They are typically larger and more powerful than vape pens or vape pods, and they often have a variety of features and customisation options that make them appealing to experienced vapers.
A vape mod typically consists of three main parts: the mod itself, which houses the battery and the electronic components that control the device, an atomiser (which holds the coil and wick), and the tank which holds the e-liquid. The mod and the atomiser connect together to form the complete device.
Due to their high power output and the large volumes of vapour that they produce, vape mods are typically used with zero or low nicotine e-liquids (less than 3mg).
Advantages of vape mods
Vape mods have a few advantages over other types of e-cigarette devices, including:
- High power and customizable wattage: Vape mods often have more powerful batteries and the ability to adjust the wattage, which allows for bigger clouds and more intense flavor.
- Temperature Control: Vape mods often include a temperature control feature that allows the user to select and fine-tune the exact temperature at which they want their coil to heat up and vapourise their e-liquid, this can also help in preventing dry hits.
- Greater battery life and safety features: Vape mods typically have larger batteries, which means they last longer between charges and have more safety features than other devices.
- Build quality and customizability: Mods are generally built to be more durable and customizable, you can change the battery, rebuild the atomiser, and change the design with different skins and wraps, etc.
- Open system: Vape mods usually use an open system, which means that users can use a wide range of liquids and coils that are compatible with the device, giving them a greater degree of choice.
- Advanced features: some mods come with features such as OLED screens, puff counters, temperature control, power delivery and others.
Disadvantages of vape mods
While vape mods have some advantages over other vaping devices, they also have some disadvantages. Here are a few examples:
- Cost: Vape mods tend to be more expensive than other types of vaping devices with a higher initial purchase price, along with the cost of replacement parts like atomisers and cotton/wick.
- Complexity: Vape mods are more complex than other devices, and require more knowledge and experience to operate safely and effectively.
- Maintenance: Vape mods require more maintenance than other devices, such as cleaning and replacing parts like coils and wicks.
- Sise and portability: Vape mods are larger and less portable than other devices, like vape pens or vape pods.
- Battery Life: Despite the larger battery capacity, advanced features and the requirement for higher wattages means the battery life might be shorter on a mod than other devices with lower power outputs.
- Limited compatibility: not all atomisers or tanks are compatible with all mods, this can limit the user’s options and increase the cost of use.
- Limited availability: not all areas in the UK have a wide range of options of mods and replacement parts, this can make it harder to find specific parts and make it less convenient.
