How Long Should I Charge a Bear Pro MAX Vape?

To charge a BEAR Pro MAX, it takes approximately 30 minutes from empty to 80% capacity when it can be used again, and up to 60 minutes (one hour) to fully charge from 0% to 100%.

To preserve the life of the battery, we recommend that you allow it to charge to at least 80% before vaping with it.

You don’t necessarily have to charge a BEAR Pro MAX to 100%, allowing it to reach 80% should be fine. However, bear in mind that allowing the battery to reach 100% can slightly extend the longevity of the battery over time. However, charging it to 80% is fine for most users and the battery will last almost as long as when it is charged it to 100%. It’s a trade off decision that depends on your needs.

Why does it take 30 minutes to charge a BEAR Pro MAX to 80%, then another 30 minutes to get from 80% to 100%?

It seems counter-intuitive that charging a BEAR Pro MAX, or any device with a lithium-ion battery, takes the same amount of time to reach 80% charge as it does to go from 80% to 100% full.

Surely, it should take less time to go from 80% to 100%, right? Not quite.

This is due to how the electrons in a lithium -on battery behave when you charge it. We’ll explain why this is the case using a simple analogy courtesy of Elon Musk – no chemistry degree required!

 

Simple analogy to explain what happens when you charge a lithium-ion battery (such as in a vape/e-cig)

When charging a battery, think of it like trying to find an empty parking space in car park. Each electron (each car) needs to find a free parking space for itself inside the battery (car park).

Now, imagine you drive into an empty car park (or an electron enters an empty battery). It doesn’t take long to find an empty parking space at all, you can park anywhere you like without having to search.

Now imagine you enter a busy car park that is 80% full (a battery with 80% charge). To find a free space to park, you’re going to have to drive around for a while until you come across a free parking space.

As the car park becomes more and more filled with cars, it takes longer and longer to find a free space, just like trying to park at a busy shopping centre at peak hours.

However, in a car park (battery) that is 80% full (charged), cars (electrons) will have to spend time driving around until they can find a free space to park in.

 

This is similar to what happens with electrons inside a lithium-ion battery during the charging process. As the battery continues to gains charge, it takes longer for each electron to find itself a ‘parking space’.
