What are 50ml e-liquids?

50ml vape liquids, sometimes known as shortfill e-liquids, are larger sizes of e-liquid that contains zero nicotine. 50ml e-liquids usually come in bottles that have 60ml capacity, leaving enough room to add a 10ml nicotine shot directly into the bottle for those who prefer to vape with nicotine. 

Most, but not all, 50ml shortfill e-liquids feature a blend of 70/30 VG/PG, which means they are thicker vape liquids that are usually used with sub-ohm and DTL (direct to lung) vape kits.

50ml vape liquids, sometimes known as shortfill e-liquids, are larger sizes of e-liquid that contains zero nicotine.

In the UK, the maximum bottle size allowed is 10ml if the e-liquid contains nicotine. However, shortfill e-liquids do not contain nicotine and can therefore be sold in larger bottles than 10ml.

Users can then purchase separate 10ml bottles of nicotine, called nic shots or nicotine shots, which can then be added directly into the shortfill bottle for those who prefer to vape with nicotine.

These vape liquids are called shortfills because the bottles they use contain extra space to add nic shots directly into the bottle. For example, typically a 100ml e-liquid uses a 120ml bottle and a 50ml e-liquid uses a 60ml bottle size.

Shortfill e-liquids are ideal for vape tricks! They often feature thicker consistencies of e-liquid due to their 70/30 ratio of VG/PG, which means they can produce much thicker vape clouds when used with high wattage devices and sub ohm coils.

Zero nicotine e-liquids are just like normal e-liquids except as the name suggests, they do not contain nicotine. They come in the same flavours and work just like normal e-liquids.

Nicotine free vape liquids are not subject to the same regulations as e-liquids containing nicotine, and can be sold in larger bottles in the UK.

They are often used for vape tricks as this allows the user to inhale more vapour without absorbing too much nicotine.

It’s impossible to say with any accuracy how many puffs you can get from a 50ml e-liquid, as it depends on a number of factors including the device type, the coil used, the power and temperature it is vaped at and the length of the draw.

For example, disposable vapes contain 2ml of vape liquid and provide an average of 600 puffs each. Using this as a guide, you can expect roughly 3000 puffs for a 10ml e-liquid and around 15,000 puffs for a 50ml. This increases if you add a 10ml nicotine shot into the bottle, to roughly 18,000 puffs.

Again, how many puffs you get from 50ml of vape liquid is entirely dependent on other factors and should only be used as a rough guide.

There are many benefits to using 50ml e-liquids:

  • You get more juice than a 10ml without having to commit to a 100ml e-liquid
  • Cheaper than bulk buying lots of 10mls in the same flavour
  • 50mls contain zero nicotine which makes them ideal for vape tricks
  • Nicotine shots can be added separately into the bottle
  • Thicker consistency for denser clouds

50ml e-liquid bottles can actually hold 60ml of vape liquid, as they are intentionally underfilled to allow a 10ml nicotine shot to be added directly into the bottle for those who prefer to vape with nicotine.

No, in the UK 50ml e-liquids cannot be purchased with any nicotine content, nor high nicotine strengths.

You can still vape your 50ml e-liquid with nicotine by adding a 10ml nicotine shot into the bottle.

However, if you are looking to vape with higher nicotine strengths (more than 3mg), then 10ml nic salts or 10ml freebase liquids would give you a wider range of options for nicotine and the flavourings are designed to work with higher amounts of nicotine.
